Dana Marinich
— a contemporary artist and painter whose early creative path began with musical experimentation.

Today she is pursuing a degree in graphic design, studying art history, and refining her skills in painting and drawing.

Her work is deeply inspired by three themes: family, nature, and death. Through reflecting on them, she seeks to create a meaningful dialogue with the viewer.
Painting “Self-Portrait with a Hanger”
Tempera on canvas. 60 × 40 cm.

“My project is, quite literally, a self-portrait holding a hanger — a detail that, to me, underscores the personal weight of this subject.

For decades, the hanger has been a grim symbol, an object used in illegal abortions that claimed the lives of countless women. This haunting image is firmly rooted in both popular culture and collective memory.

In this painting, I confront the subject through a personal lens. The harrowing circumstances that people are forced into by society drive them to desperate, dangerous acts. The refusal to address such uncomfortable issues only deepens despair, degradation, and strips away our humanity.

The themes of childhood, adulthood, and escapism are woven into the work’s central image and its backdrop, borrowed from the curtains of a childhood bedroom.”
