Rykina Maria
Maria finished The Academy of Watercolours and Fine Arts in 2021 and now has a BA in arts.

"In my artworks I show deep parts of myself by exploring my past experience and feelings. My degree and interest in art history helped me create colorful and memorable pieces that left no one apathetic.
I show grief, emotional, physical and sexual abuse but also discover of self identity in a modern society by using symbolism in my artworks. I am trying to find a stiff ground between the real world and the way I imagine it with my art.

Color and light in art isn't just a technique, it's a way to create new meanings and add something unique and deep."

Art exhibitions Maria partake:
2017 – "Arena", The Academy of Watercolours and Fine Arts in Moscow, Russia
2023 – The Central House of Artists in Moscow, Russia

The series "Searching for light"
The series of works is dedicated to personal fight with darkness and searching for light, meaning and self-discovery.

Bright, contrasting colors and surrealism forms convey drama, tension and alienation. Each piece is a mystery that makes a person reflect on the meaning of life.

The series portrays the feelings of helpfulness and loss of a meaning that many people face, but especially the victims of abuse.

But also it gives hope by showing that even in complete darkness there is a light of hope that can bring a person to a better place. Maria wants to tell a story of self-reflection, their journey to finding the meaning of life, especially after a traumatic experience.
